I am really, really upset today. It would be very, very simple for race directors and registration companies give RunSignUp a call to do load testing before they go live. We offer this as a service to any race – you don’t need to use us!
“We offer this as a Testing Service as well as for Registration Day and Race Day. Set-up is $5,000 plus $25 per EC2 Unit of compute capacity.”
This is a minimal cost for large races who should aim to provide a great registration experience.
Scaling is a tough, tough problem that RunSignUp has addressed. Races and registration sites should be able to handle 50,000 runners trying to sign up for their race at the same time. If you are interested in the technical details of how we did this, we are in the process of publishing a technical white paper. Even other registration companies can send me an email (bob.bickel at runsignup.com) and we will send you a preliminary version of the white paper that goes into all the nitty gritty of how to accomplish this. Registration companies and race directors are getting an underserved black eye too much these days!
