RunSignUp’s RaceJoy mobile platform continued to debut its new GPS Progress Alerts at Cooper River Bridge Run this last weekend and at nine additional races across the country. Participants and spectators were able to receive notifications as they crossed every mile on the course that included their location, time elapsed, pace and estimated finish time. This, along with live tracking on an interactive map and fun audio cheers, added to the race day experience.
Cooper River Bridge Run’s race director, Julian Smith, showed his support by having his team promote RaceJoy to participants by posting information on their website (above), social media outlets and via email. Below is a Facebook post the race posted to help spread the word.
RunSignUp’s Shelly Harris ran the race as a product tester and was one of the 40,000+ to cross the impressive bridge over the Cooper River. Shelly received many cheers from her RaceJoy fan club and knew exactly how she was doing at every mile point on the course with the RaceJoy audio alerts. She thought her dad’s You’re Going to Boston cheer was pretty funny.
Below are screen captures of live tracking of participants over the Cooper River!
The other nine races where RaceJoy was utilized included:
- Tomoka Marathon
- NC Troopers FootChase 5K
- Body First Wicked Marathon
- Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K
- Savannah Women’s Half
- Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle
- Reston Marathon – Where Bob Bickel’s daughter ran the race.
- Virginia Duathlon
- Legs for Life 5K
Overall, RaceJoy had more than 1,000 users and 150 phones were tracked, and, on average, each participant had one person tracking them. More than 3,200 GPS Progress Alerts were sent out as well as close to 600 cheers. We are continuing to evolve the GPS Alert system as we receive feedback from the field – such as changing the Start My Race navigation and applying additional adaptive algorithms.
If you’d like to get your race added to RaceJoy, simply enable RaceJoy in the RunSignUp GO platform and provide your course map electronically (KML, GPX or link to map). We need a minimum of two weeks to load and will send you notice and promotion toolkit once it is active. This is free to the event and the participant and spectator pay a 99 cents per race upgrade fee.
